The 2013 SCIMP annual conference was held on the 5th and 6th November at the Crieff Hydro Hotel. The conference was attended by around 180 delegates and exhibitors from a varied range of Health Service professionals and suppliers including GPs, Practice Managers, NHS Board IT Facilitators, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals as well as staff from Scottish Government and National Services Scotland.
Exhibitors and sponsors included Advanced Health & Care, EMIS, DXS UK (Ltd), ATOS, Practitioner Services, INPS, CFH Docmail, TotalMobile, MSDi, United Health UK, Brother UK, Microtech, Numed, Bluebay Medical Systems, SNUG and the Scottish Government.
Tuesday 5th November
Dr Ian Thompson, Chair of SCIMP Conference 2013 opened and welcomed Dr Cliff Barthram and Beena Raschkes, Consultant Anaesthetist & Joint eHealth Lead and GP & Joint Clinical IT Lead from NHS Tayside who gave a very thought provoking and interesting presentation on The view from the silvery Tay.
This was followed by Streams 1 & 2 of the planned parallel sessions which were open for attendance by all delegates. Presentations from the sessions will be available shortly.
After lunch delegates were given the opportunity to attend a session by TotalMobile.
This was followed by streams 3& 4, which led onto a panel debate entitled “Beware of the Dragons” chaired by Brian Robson, along with Lewis Ritchie, Sue Kinsey, Eddie Turnbull, and Sam Patel.
The day concluded with an optional “Closing the loop commission” session led by Sam Patel, Consultant Physician, NHS Lanarkshire.
The main conference day closed at 17.30.
A drinks reception, sponsored by Perth & Kinross Council was held at 19.00 and attended by the depute Provost Bob Band who delivered a short speech.
At 19.30 the Conference Dinner was held in the Melville Hall followed by a lively ceilidh.
Wednesday 6th November
Dr Ian Thompson once again opened Day 2 of the conference and welcomed John Steyn, Clinical eHealth Adviser, NHS Lothian who gave an interesting presentation on Centralised Data from Practices entitled Pandora’s Box.
This was followed by Stream 5. After the morning coffee break Frank Sullivan, GP, Dundee delivered his Data Wizards presentation, which followed onto Stream 6 bringing the parallel sessions to an end.
After lunch Steve Baguley, Clinical Director, eHealth at NHS Grampian delivered an excellent presentation on Grampian’s 20:20 Vision.
The prize donated Crieff Hydro was presented to the lucky winner, thereafter Dr Ian Thompson closed the conference by thanking all the delegates for attending, the plenary and parallel session presenters for their time and effort in the preparation and presentation of their sessions, the exhibitors for their time and involvement and the hotel staff for the excellent facilities and catering.
