Are you interested in Health Informatics and want to influence the direction of eHealth in Primary Care?

We are looking for enthusiastic new members to join our team. If you currently work in or around General Practice as a doctor, manager or nurse and have practical experience of employing information technology to improve the business of health care, then please read on.

The SCIMP Working Group brings together, on behalf of NHS Scotland, otherwise independent professionals to jointly share and discuss health informatics experience and provide clinical domain expertise to eHealth Projects in Primary Care.

SCIMP members contribute to a wide range of developments including:

  • GP2GP
  • Bowel Screening
  • Terminology changes such as the migration to SNOMED CT
  • Electronic Medical Certificate Cause of Death
  • QOF Logical Business Rules
  • Electronic Medication reconciliation
  • Key Information Summary, Emergency Care Summary
  • Patient Access to Records and Services
  • SPIRE Project for GP Data

Our members have special interests in interoperability, clinical modelling, terminologies, document management and data quality. We aim to improve health care by applying best practice in health informatics, making it easier for health care professionals to deliver better care.

Any new members must be professionally registered in keeping with their role, for example a doctor must be registered with GMC. You should also be able to demonstrate that you have been involved with Health IT in general practice or other health care organisations. Ideally you will have undertaken some learning or education in Health Informatics or in Information Technologies. New members of the group need to be able to influence others and affect changes, work as part of a team and be good communicators.

Your minimum commitment would be to attend Working Group meetings three to four times per annum and to contribute to discussions on our mailing list. There will be many opportunities to become more involved and individuals with time to commit to SCIMP work alongside their other professional roles are preferred.

To find out more about the working group role please refer to our Terms of Reference.

If you are interested in joining our working group please forward your CV and covering letter to Jane Thomson. If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact the SCIMP Clinical Lead Dr Paul Miller.
