Care Summaries

In 2006 Scotland pioneered the Emergency Care Summaries,  a list of medications and allergies, extracted from GP systems and made available, on consent from the patient, to clinicians in unscheduled care settings (A&E, out of hours GPs and acute hospital admissions units). SCIMP provides support to the ongoing maintenance of this system.

This was extended in 2010 to support electronic Palliative Care Summary, an explicitly consented sharing of information from GP records relevant to the care of patients with Palliative conditions.

The  Key Information Summary is the latest development and is being rolled out across Scotland through 2013. The Key Information Summary (KIS) will support Long Term Conditions and other situations where having additional information available clinicians in unscheduled care settings could improved patient care.
